Its a bang for your bucks, why? A 15.6-inch Full-HD gaming notebooks have been available for a couple of years, but they haven’t been exactly affordable. Having an Acer Predator or Dell Alienware notebook with Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU will cost you around SGD $2500 or more, which is steep compared to what a regular notebook cost these days. While the MX-15 is only SGD $1142 even with a 15.6-inch Full-HD IPS Matte Display, 7th Gen Quad Core i7-7700 3.6GHz processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU with 6GB GDR5 RAM, 8GB of DDR4 RAM plus 120GB SSD with 1TB HDD. There’s also a generous number of ports including 1x USB 2.0, 2x USB 3.0 (Type A) and 1x USB 3.0 (Type C). There’s also a single HDMI and two mini Display ports so you can connect to up to three external monitors!

With the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU having 6GB GDR5 RAM and the 7th Gen Quad Core i7-7700 3.6GHz processor, it allows high and maximum frames per second running lots of games smoothly though with best graphics. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU can run games like counter strike global offensive max graphics at around 160 frames per second which is ideal for gamers. The 7th Gen Quad Core i7-7700 3.6GHz processor also helps out with maximizing the graphics processing unit.

Even though the MX-15 is cheap, it contains most gaming laptop functions, for example, its keyboard. The keyboard has RGB backlights which you can set to up to highlight your hotkeys and controls in different colours.

In my opinion, MX-15 is a must for people who wants cheap but awesome gaming laptop, its really great compared to some overpriced gaming laptops which cost around SGD $2600 with worse performance.

Lenovo Yoga 920

The Lenovo Yoga 920 keeps everything i liked about its predecessor, the 910, and fixes almost everything i didn’t. A world-class performance, standout style and immersive entertainment, the Lenovo Yoga 920 is in a league of its own. Sleeker than ever and packed with speed and power to streamline your day: long-range voice-activated support, a nearly edgeless 4K display( 2160p) a resolution of 3840 pixels × 2160 lines, an optional digital pen featuring pinpoint accuracy, and more. Stand apart.

The Lenovo Yoga 920 adds in Intel’s latest eighth-generation Core i-series processors that do deliver better performance while keeping its battery life good and long. Priced at SGD$2100, in my opinion it can be lesser and cheaper to be more affordable. But Lenovo Yoga 920 features can actually make up for that. Lenovo Yoga 920 is also slim and able to fit into most laptop bag and being easy to bring around. Its design is also a great feature. Being attractive and slick, it can make most people “wow!” on the laptop.

From the super slim bezels around its display to the sturdy all-metal chassis to its unique watchband 360-degree hinge, the 920 looks and feels like a premium laptop. At 1.4 kg, it’s a little heavy but far from a burden and forgivable considering you’re getting a 13.9-inch screen in the same space as a typical 13.3-inch laptop. Plus at half an inch thick (12.7 mm), it easily slips into most laptop bag.

The precision touch pad stays just about perfect. Fingers glide easily over its smooth surface, and you would never experienced any cursor jumps caused by a brush from your palm. There are multi touch gestures that are easily adjusted within Windows’ settings, so you can turn off controls like pinch-to-zoom or three-finger swipes if you want. A fingerprint reader to the right of the touch pad lets you sign in quickly with Windows Hello, which makes your login smooth and fast.

Overall i think Lenovo Yoga 920 is a great laptop and worth your money.

Motorola Moto G4

The Motorola Moto G4 is a budget phone that is claimed by many to also be good. Certain key features that might seem interesting is that the phone is able to survive being dunked into water and will not turn off immediately after it comes in contact with water. This is really useful for those who have tendencies of spilling or are generally much clumsier.

The Motorola Moto G4 is also pretty thin which is handy if you want to keep and take out of your pocket easily. The Motorola Moto G4 has a 14cm screen with a HD display with 1080p resolution. The colours are well saturated which is ideal for usage.

The Motorola Moto G4 comes with a battery life of around 13 hours which is quite a long usage time for an average user and is really useful if you’re unable to charge the phone. There’s also a fingerprint scanner at the front which is a nifty function as it is more convenient for those who finds typing in the passcode repeatedly to get into their phone a burden. Do note that this is not a home button and some long time apple or android users may mistake the fingerprint scanner for it.

The Motorola Moto G4 comes with octa-core processors which are adequate for video streaming or playing casual games. However, if you’re planning on using this phone for gaming, this phone isn’t ideal for it.

The camera of the Motorola Moto G4 is a 13-megapixel camera which produces generally satisfying images that are acceptable by society’s standards. Even in bright lights, it will still produce really decent images.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for a cheap yet decent phone to use for your everyday social media needs and have a battery that lasts for a long period of time. The phone can be bought at around S$269.99 at retail price. However, do not expect much from it if you’re using it for gaming.

iPad Mini 2

I’m sure everyone has heard of the iPad by now, some people may want a tablet but find it too big for them, well the iPad Mini 2 might be for you. With its light and thin design, it would not be much of a burden to carry it around and is also easy to keep.

It uses the iOS 9 which is the most recent and secure version of the operating system. There is a 16GB/32GB/64GB/128GB models where you can choose from.

Don’t let the size of the iPad fool you, it is still able to perform basic tasks like surfing the internet or playing casual games. It is installed it with the A7 Chip which is quite responsive, powerful and power efficient, having a battery life of around 10 hours (may vary from users).

Using 802.11n with MIMO, it is able to provide a faster internet connection making streaming videos more enjoyable as the chance of it buffering is severely reduced. It also supports 4G which is small but makes a big significance as you’re able load things more quickly and stream videos on YouTube or any media sharing platform in high quality.

It comes with a 7.9-Inch Retina Display which are able to capture sharper and detailed photos. The screen is sharp and colourful so that it is enjoyable for viewing.

When you purchase the iPad Mini 2, it comes a Lighting to USB cable and a USB Power Adapter.

Overall, the iPad Mini 2 is good budget iPad if features aren’t a problem. Some who had used certain Apple Phones and Tablets may know that it comes with a TouchID Sensor which the iPad Mini 2 lacks. The iPad Mini is cheaper than most Apple products where it costs from S$398.00 to S$648.00. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a tablet to do basic functions like surfing the web, streaming videos or play casual games, this maybe a perfect tablet for you.

Google Nexus 5X

Priced at about S$530, the Google Nexus 5X has a light weight, thin and small in size. In fact, it’s so small that you would be able to  control the phone from one side of the screen to the other single – handedly. The Nexus 5X comes in the operating system of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The device comes in both black and white. The white colour has a plastic rear and due to the plastic material, many users have pointed out that its design looks a little cheap compared to other phones on the market. On the other hand, the black colour version is made up of rubber, which probably is the reason why most of the consumers prefer the black one over the white version.

On the right edge of the phone, you would be able to find the volume and power buttons. The buttons are relatively shallow so that it suits the small design of the Nexus 5X. There are two visible speakers which sticks out at the front of the device. The 5X also has improved and sharper graphics compared to the Nexus 5. And the graphics isn’t the only thing that has improved, the new 5X has other functions too.

At the rear of the phone below the camera, there is an imprint fingerprint scanner on a silver disc. It also serves as a disc which you can balance your phone using your index finger when you only have one hand available. Google has intelligently hidden their fingerprint scanner beneath this disc, therefore allowing it to serve various purposes at the same time. It also is placed really conveniently and would definitely be in the reach of your finger. Furthermore, it also acts as the phone’s power button, meaning that no swiping or touching on the screen is needed at all. This way, you can power up the device efficiently without needed to place your thumb in an awkward position by finding it at the bottom of the device. This feature seems really remarkable and definitely is one of the main attraction of the phone.

The phone also has a brand new Android feature called Google Now on Tap. It allows you to search on Google without interrupting your activity on the phone. After scrolling through information, all you have to do is hold down the home button and the device will automatically search for that particular information through Google. This feature is pretty refreshing and creative. It does make searching more convenient though manually opening your browser wouldn’t occupy that much of your time.

The rear camera of the Nexus 5X has 12.3 megapixels while its front camera has 5 megapixels. Interestingly, it has a sensor known as the Sony IMX377, which has relatively large pixels and therefore, let in more light so that pictures would have better lighting. The front camera though doesn’t have excellent images to boast about, but is actually quite sharp. However, it doesn’t cover that big of an angle thus taking fitting in a whole lot of people into the picture might prove as a problem.

The interface of the phone is also really smooth and seems to have little problems at handling games. Compared to the Galaxy S6, the speed of the Nexus 5X isn’t that far behind at all. The battery life of the phone though doesn’t really seem to be that impressive and lasts for only about 9 hours on an average, a result many high – end phones would be able to surpass easily.

Though the design of the phone isn’t the best you can get, I personally feel that the phone has lots to offer and its refreshingly convenient features are really attractive. It just feels absolutely convenient in every way possible. Does it have lots of mind – blowing specs and an unmatchable performance? I guess not. But all that isn’t the main attraction of the phone at all, its how all the features are so intelligently implemented in a way that you get a whole creative and unique device. I honestly feel that the phone is worth the price and has definitely gave me an excellent first impression.

Seagate Seven Portable Drive

An extremely thin portable drive, the Seagate Seven has a helpful backup software and relatively fast performance. Despite being aesthetically pleasing, the only capacity available for the it is 500 GB. For a portable drive with that capacity, it can be considered as relatively expensive at a price of around S$137. For users who desire only a moderate amount of storage space, this device would be quite ideal to invest in, especially because it has quite an attractive design.

Being the thinnest portable drive currently available on the market, the Seagate Seven also has an eye – catching design. Besides its design, it delivers a performance which is quite satisfactory. It supports USB 3.0 and has a helpful backup software. The portable drive can also work on USB 2.0 at a speed of around 30MBps, which is the fastest speed a standard USB 2.0 can achieve. However, at its price, it is possible to get a portable drive with a capacity of 200 TB.

Its name, Seven, was taken from how thin it is, 7mm. It has a chassis made out of hardened aluminium. This will protect the drive inside from crush damages and shocks. According to the company, the device is able to function even after being run over by a small car. Users have also given feedback that the portable drive feels rugged and is almost impossible to bend.

The device also comes with a USB 3.0 cable which has a foot – long length. When it is connected, a small blue status light would light up and it would pulse lightly when data activities are taking place. The portable drive is preformatted by using exFAT file system. This would mean that both Windows and Mac would work with it without requiring a software installation or setup.

The device also comes with the Seagate Dashboard application. The application has three main backup functions, the PC, Social and Mobile Backup. Only available for Windows, users are able to back up a computer’s file and its folders to the portable drive by using the PC Backup. You are able to let the software pick what should be backed up or alternatively,  you are able to choose the files yourself. The Social Backup function will allow users to share your media to social – networking sites, and the other way around too. The Mobile Backup will allow you to store content on mobile devices by using the downloadable application, Seagate Mobile Backup.

Overall, this is not a portable drive with extremely stunning performances nor does it have a very huge capacity. It is though, extremely sleek, good looking and has a very helpful backup software. I personally would not pay for a portable drive at this price but it might be a more attractive choice if its price dropped.

Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro

The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is one of the most anticipated laptops of the year. The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro won the popularity vote at the Digital Life Awards 2014. This laptop consists of more than 800 different aluminium and steel parts and has a new hinge which is not as bulky as the older versions.

The new Yoga 3 Pro is extremely thin. With the laptop lid closed, it is only 13mm thick. A typical ultrabook is 17mm thick. This laptop is very light considering the fact that it is a 13-inch laptop. It weighs 1.19kg. It can be carried around easily. The Yoga 3 Pro has an ultra-high resolution 3,200 x 1,800-pixel screen. It is an extremely bright screen with vivid colours and excellent viewing angles.

This laptop is also highly responsive to touch inputs. There is also an disadvantage for this laptop. The icons and text displayed are extremely tiny, and they are practically unusable. Therefore, Lenovo has to deliberately enlarge the font of the words and icons to their largest size.

The biggest issue is with its battery life as this laptop, with screen brightness and volume at its maximum, can only last 4 hours in a battery life test. In my opinion, this is a great laptop for usage. It is convenient however its price is $2,299 and its battery life is not so good. In my opinion, this laptop is a good all-rounder that I would recommend to consumers.
