Corsair HARPOON RGB Gaming Mouse

Corsair has been at the top of the market in many different areas and this includes their computer mice. However, Corsair has mostly been releasing mice with a somewhat high price tag of over 55SGD, such as the M65 PRO RGB, Scimitar PRO RGB. If you are a Corsair fan or just a person who wants to upgrade their mouse with a budget of lesser than 50SGD, you might want to consider Corsair’s Harpoon RGB Gaming Mouse.

Priced at around 55SGD, this is a great mice if you are looking for a mid-end mouse. The first thing that you would notice after you have tried it is how incredibly lightweight it is. At 85 grams, it is much lighter compared to many other mice in the current market. This lightweight design would be ideal for those first person shooter players or those who just prefer a lightweight mouse when gaming.

On the left side of the Harpoon lies two side buttons that are placed in a position where it is easy to press for those with smaller than average hands. The buttons feel very well made and sturdy compared to some other mice which as side buttons that feel very flimsy. The mice also has a textured rubber grip that stretches out on both the left and right side of the mouse for additional comfort and to allow for stronger grip.

The back of the Harpoon has a pretty good curve that allows for a especially comfortable grip that feels very natural. And of course, the Corsair logo which has RGB LED lighting sits on the back.

Now on to the front of the mouse. The left and right buttons both feel very smooth on the surface and feel very responsive. In between the buttons is the scroll wheel that feels quite rigid which may bother some people. Right behind the scroll wheel is where the DPI button as usual, where you can switch between five settings, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, and 6000. It is also good to note that these number can be changed with a software in multiples of 250. In addition to being able to change up the numbers, you are also allowed to change the LED colour based on which DPI setting you are on. This is very handy as you can just check what DPI you are on right of the bat just by glancing at the mouse.

The bottom of the Harpoon has a Pixart PMW3320 Optical sensor and four PTFE skates which lets the mouse glide smoothly on surfaces.

Overall, the Harpoon is a very well designed mice and with a price tag of around 55SGD, this mice is well worth the price. However, if you have more money to spare for a mouse, I would suggest that you go for some other Corsair gaming mice rather than this one as they are much more unique and superior.

Steelseries Rival 95

Steelseries Rival 95

Looking for a new mouse or just tired of your old one? Do you want a cheap yet reliable mouse for gaming? If you answered yes to any of the questions, you might want to consider the Steelseries Rival 95.

You will most likely find the Steelseries Rival 100 online and in stores instead, however as they both have the same specifications.

Design

The Rival 95 is a wired mouse with a wire length of 1.8m. Worry not if you use a claw grip, palm grip or fingertip grip as the Rival 95 has a right hand grip that is comfortable for most grips.

The barely noticeable thumb rest is a plastic padding which is comfortable for your thumb to rest on. Just above the padding are two side buttons, these two buttons can be used for macros in gaming or for quick-switching between pages on the internet.

There is also CPI quick-switch button just below the scroll wheel that allows you to change between two CPI settings that can be customized by the user up to a maximum of 4000 CPI. In order to utilize the CPI quick-switch button, you need to bind the button in SteelSeries Engine, a free customization tool for this mouse.

Performance

The mouse feels really smooth when used on most surfaces. Due to it being a wired-mouse as opposed to a wireless mouse, it is more responsive and will not have any delay or lag.

Customization

Unlike the Rival 100, the Rival 95 is quite limited on customization and lacks the dynamic LED lighting that the Rival 100 has.

You can change the polling rate which is the interval at which the position of the mouse is reported.  The CPI can be changed up to 4000 CPI.  You can also set mouse acceleration and deceleration. The angle at which the mouse cursor snaps can also be changed, although I would not recommend actually changing this option.

Conclusion

The rival 95 is a pretty decent mouse that can be used for gaming. It is targeted towards less macro intense games like Counter Strike, Overwatch and Call of Duty. as there are only 2 side buttons for macros.

The ergonomics of the mouse makes it really comfortable to use and feels very light and not much of a burden to move, giving a pleasant experience.

The limited customization might be a minor setback to the mouse for those who likes fancy LED lights and dynamic lighting. However, basic customization like CPI quick-switch, key binding, macros are available.

The mouse performs very well as there isn’t any delay or lag. It is also quite precise, making it able to detect the slightest movements, allowing for a smooth experience.

The pricing is also not that expensive at around S$38 at retail price, making it quite affordable.

Therefore in my opinion, if you’re a casual or semi-competitive gamer, this mouse would really suit you.

Logitech Wireless Mouse M510

If you are sick of using your laptop’s touchpad, the cheap mouse that comes with it or you are just looking for a mouse, then you should consider the Logitech Wireless Mouse M510 in your list.

When you first look at the mouse, it may seem like any other ordinary office mouse. But when you start to use it, you will realize why this is a highly rated product.

The Logitech M510 comes in 3 different colours; black, red and blue. The mouse feels very natural on your palm when you grip it and your thumb and pinky fingers are able to rest on the rubber grip very comfortably.

Aside from having two side buttons on the left for going back and forward in the browser or to switch between songs, it also has horizontal left and right scrolling, which is very useful for people who may use applications such as Microsoft’s Excel for example.

One very useful thing that this mouse has is Logitech’s “Darkfield” laser sensor, which essentially lets you use it on almost any surface. This would mean that there would not be a need to pack a mouse pad into your bag if you are going to travel with your laptop.

Logitech has said that the M510 is able to run on just 2 AA batteries that provide power for a duration of 2 years. Even better, this mouse is able to run perfectly well with only 1 battery.

Overall, at a price of around 60SGD, this is an relatively affordable mouse  that you might want to consider purchasing. It is comfortable to use, highly portable due to its size and does not require a mouse pad to use and has a very long battery life.

Apple’s iPhone 7

 Image of iPhone 7

The new iPhone 7  has a new and improved front and rear cameras that take higher quality pictures(12-megapixel camera)(Digital zoom up to 5x), especially in low lighting. It has a faster processor and slightly better battery life. It is also waterproof now. However despite the upsides, there is always flaws to phones. The new iPhone does not have a headphone jack and the jet black version of it is easily scratched. If you already own a decent iPhone and want to upgrade it, the iPhone 7 plus may be a better choice.

Even though this iPhone is not really “new”-no new features and seems like a copy of the iPhone 6, it is faster, more waterproof so now if it drops in a cup of water it would still work. The camera is now better in low light, and the battery life increase is slightly noticeable. Take note that the main screen button is now touch screen so it will not physically click then you press it.

If you are not rushing to get a new phone you can wait to September of 2017 when it is Apple’s tenth anniversary and it is rumored that there there is a major design change in the new iPhone then.Who knows maybe this model is purposely made not as impressive as it could have been so that the ten year anniversary phone would stand out much more as it would be much better than this model.

Overall I think that you should not buy this iPhone if you are not going to use the new camera a ton, as i think better feature that matters more. The new processor (A10 processor) may be better than the iPhone 6 but keep in mind that the iPhone 6’s processor (A8 Processor), the  is already pretty impressive. So there really isn’t anything new in this iPhone.

Cree Connected LED Bulb

Cree connected LED Bulb

The Cree Connected LED Bulb is an 11.5 watt smart light bulb made by Cree. The Cree LED bulb is able to be controlled by phone via a control hub, allowing it to be remotely controlled. Using the controls, you can turn the bulb off and on or dim and brighten the bulb from your phone.

The Cree Connected bulb is the cheapest connected bulb in the market at $15, slightly more than a non-connected bulb. It is pretty bright, illuminating at 815 lumens, and with an efficiency of 76 lumens per watt, it is also a relatively efficient bulb.

The Cree Connected LED bulb is also good at dimming and brightening without a buzz or flicker.  It is easy to pair with a control hub like wink, Hue Bridge, SmartThings and Staples Connect. With the wink app, using the Cree Connected LED bulb is a breeze. Tap to turn the light on and off and slide to make it dimmer or brighter.  Automation is quite easy with wink’s robots feature. You can make the light turn off and on when certain conditions are met, an example of this would be turning off the lights automatically when you are not at home. There is also a shortcut feature, allowing you to turn on more than one bulb at the same time. The Cree has some shortcomings though. One such example is its plastic cover that might look unsightly to some people.

Overall the Cree Connected LED Bulb is efficient at lighting up the place and is easy to use even though some might not like its aesthetics degisn

Pokemon Sun & Moon

Pokemon Sun and Moon is newly released on November 2016 to commemorate the Pokemon franchise’s 20th anniversary.

Following the usual story line of almost all the Pokemon games, you will be a Pokemon trainer training Pokemons with your friends in the Alola region which is based on Hawaii. The objective of this game in the story is to defeat/stop the criminal organization, Team Skull, while battling other Pokemon trainers along the way.

The game introduced 81 new Pokemon species and includes new features such as Alolan forms of previous Pokemons, powerful moves called Z-Moves, powerful creatures known as Ultra Beasts, updated battle and training mechanics, and improved polygonal 3D graphics. The game also has Mega Evolution which evolves Pokemon into a better form. Just like Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, Pokemon Sun and Moon has almost the same story plot.

Alike the other previous Pokemon games, it contains similar and more features like being able to customize your own character in Pokemon X and Y.

The game takes places in the Alola region which consists of mostly islands. You start off by moving in to the region and you meet Professor Kukui. Unfortunately, Professor Oak is not around (Professor in other Pokemon games) and instead his cousin Samson Oak will be taking his place and Professor Kukui being the leading scientist. You then continue on into the normal situation where you have to save someone from a Pokemon or witness someone getting saved from a Pokemon and from there you continue on with the story.

The game was very well received by people and critics and it even shipped over 10 million units worldwide within a week, becoming one of the fastest selling games in Nintendo’s history.

Pokemon Sun and Moon costs £32 and £35 respectively on Amazon and GAME. I personally feel it is worth it as the game is quite different from the usual game mechanics.

Monstercat Best of 2016

ry

The annual mix for Monstercat is out, with 2 and a half hours of songs altogether, this album has a good number of songs. Out of the 40 songs, I will only review 10 of them. They are in no order.

Noisestorm – Antihero

Using the same formula as Heist last year, the trap song has a catchy start with Arabic-sounding buildups and using horns for a good portion of the starting melody. The drop is somewhat good, but it can surely be better.

Marshmello – Alone

A big hit in the electronic charts, undoubtedly Alone will be in the Best of 2016. With additional vocals, the song is generally good. A good buildup and melody helps it very well. The drop is also well produced. The vocals are quite good and fits the theme of the song.

Muzzy – Crescendo (featuring MYLK)

Part of the 5 Year Anniversary songs, Muzzy has shown what he has been doing. With one of the best vocals in the album, this is further complimented with a good mix of styles by Muzzy. The drop is somewhat bouncy and the buildup is intense. This is one of the best song produced by Muzzy.
Vicetone – Nevada (Featuring Cozi Zuehlsdorff)

Vicetone has made on of the best songs this year. With simple, slick and catchy synths and melody, with out any vocals, this will already be a well produced song. Ever since her inception last year in The Girl, the songs that she is starred in has beautiful vocals. Undoubtedly, this is one of the hottest songs on Monstercat this year.

Feint – Words (Featuring Laura Brehm)

The same formula is used twice, and it worked twice. In Words, Feint has produced a song with intense beats and still sound very melodic. Laura’s vocals are unbelievably good this time round, even though it is more intense than last year’s We Won’t Be Alone.

Pegboard Nerds and Grabbitz – All Alone

What could be considered a ‘dream collaboration’, when you have two of the most recognised artists to collaborate. With good vocals by Grabbitz and both artists producing the melody, it is a masterpiece by default.

Dirty Audio – Gorilla Glue
With an ominous start and a good drop, this is one of the better trap songs this year. Both parts are well produced and catchy. As compared to the ‘legendary’ trap songs on Monstercat, this is on the better end of the stick.

Rogue – Nemesis

To put simply this is Rattlesnake VIP. With the ‘pots and pans’ in the drop and reusing some sounds from Rattlesnake, this is a catchy song. A worth successor of Rattlesnake, this song is no doubt Rattlensnake 2.0, but better than a reskin or remake.

Hellberg – Synchronize (Featuring Aaron Richards)

An underrated song, but nevertheless a very good one. It is very well made, smooth and melodious. Aaron Richards’ vocals are well done and the lyrics are well thought-out. The well choreographed and touching music video is just the icing on the cake.

Richard Caddock, WRLD, Nitro Fun, Slips & Slurs & Subtact – Break The Silence

More is better in this scenario. With Richard Caddock doing the lyrics and vocals, WRLD and Nitro Fun doing melody and synths. Slips & Slurs and Subtact should be doing the bass and adding some of their signature sounds into the mix. This is very diverse and able to fit the styles of everyone in the track.
