Apple MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (13-inch, 2016)

Introducing, Apple’s new laptop, the Macbook Pro, with a touch bar. The new computer is slimmer and lighter than it’s predecessors, making it a slightly more transportable device. In this model, Apple has also removed all it’s legacy ports for Thunderbolt 3-powered USB-C, forcing you to have to buy a whole bunch of dongles. The main touch of this model is, of course the touch bar, that replaces the function keys.

Features

The macbook’s key feature is of course, is the mini slice of an ipad know as the touch bar, located at the top of the keyboard. The touch bar has a fingerprint scanner, allowing users to use Apple pay and Touch ID. It also allows you to adjust brightness and volume and works with other apps, which for now are mostly apple made apps but more 3rd party support is inevitable.

Pros

The macbook is currently the best macbook on the market with the touch bar making some task a little simpler and quicker. Also, being smaller and lighter than the rest of the macbook family, it is easier and more convenient to transport, making for better for using on the go.

Cons

One of the main problems is the large number of dongles required to get the legacy ports back, which some may find rather annoying. Also the computer runs at 16GB of RAM, which some find a little too low, expecting 32GB as a benchmark for the RAM. Also the lack of third party support is rather disappointing. All factors driving people away from macbook and to windows.

This is the ultimate macbook for now, with the addition of the touch bar, despite trading of several features.

DJI Spark

The five colours of the DJI Spark:                                                                      Blue,Green,Red,White,Yellow.

The drone that I will be doing today is the DJI Spark. Its advantage is that it is light, has a very good camera, can sense obstacles and dodge it and has gesture controls. It is suitable for taking good pictures. But the gesture mode can only take pictures and it flies for a very short time.

The app is not very efficient , especially on phones with small screens and frustrates the user. In general, it a good camera in a small flying package.

With a affordable price of $468.49, like a efficient camera , you can get many good functions of this portable camera. At first, DJI Mavic Pro($999) with its features like the compact folding design, it went to the top ranking amongst the drones. But after the appearance of the Spark in may, everyone forgot the rest of the drones and only remembered this one.It has many features like the Mavic such as dual-band GPS and a visual positioning system to let it “float” 30 feet above the ground without falling.

For the Spark, there is a bundle for you to get a set of prop guards, extra props, batteries for only $699. You save $154, so why not get this bundle right? It comes in five colours- blue, green, red ,white ,yellow.

How do you operate it?Simple.

Just power on the blades of the Drone, put it in your hands and your face. facing the camera, tap twice of the power button. The camera scans your face.Simple as that.

I personally think this Drone is great for people who love flying objects, love to take pictures and people who likes cool and trending stuff. Basically, it has a great camera quality in a small package but it cannot hover in the air for long.

DJI Phantom 4 Pro

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro is another drone for photographers to use. The DJI Phantom 4 Pro almost seems like it was made for that exact purpose with automated camera functions, robust controls, and a max speed of  72kph (45mph).

Specifications:

  • 1388g (3.06 pounds)
  • 350mm diagonally (13.7 inches)
  • Approx 28 minutes flight time
  • Controller with flight and camera controls (optional touchscreen)
  • 72kph (45mph)
  • Front and rear collision detection

The automated camera functions means that you do not need to control the camera on your own to do the same things over and over again. The 28 minutes flight time would mean that you do not have to constantly land your drone and recharge it and can continuously take a series of photographs. Having a controller with flight and camera controls to control the drone would be like playing a video game on your phone. Collision sensors on the sides would allow you to know when your drone bumps into something. The one on the bottom would allow for safer landings and the infrared sensors would allow it to know where it is in a confined space.

The return-to-home function has a range of 300 meters. The function allows the drone to go back to a specific location that you can set as long as that location is within the range. That is where the infrared sensors come in handy as you can get it to go into confined spaces like your house. The drone, using the infrared sensors, would be able to navigate through the area on its own when returning home.

The chunky controller has not changed from the DJI Phantom 4. Of course the price is more expensive due to the additional Pro features.

Now onto the drone itself. It has a carry case which as the name suggests can carry items in it. The propellers can be easily removed and clipped on for the ease of setup.

Camera Specifications:

  • 4K video at 60fps
  • Max video bitrate 100Mbps
  • 128GB MicroSD
  • 20-megapixel, 1-inch CMOS sensor
  • Mechanical shutter
  • Aperture control f2.8-f11

The specifications are what you would usually find in a camera drone.

2 of the drone functions include ActiveTrack and Tapfly mode. ActiveTrack allows the drone to follow a subject by flying sideways or backwards. Tapfly mode, which works backwards now, allows the drone to fly to a location which you will determine by tapping on the screen and you can rotate the drone or tilt the camera without changing its path. The software can handle the gimbal’s smooth sweeps and tracking better than you can, and that is what’s worth the price for interested photographers.

The drone comes with a beginners mode where it restricts the top seed and steering. Once you are more comfortable with flying it, you can always remove the beginner mode anytime you feel like.

I personally feel that the price is worth it for the wide variety of functions and the complexity of each function. The functions are easy to use and can easily help one out in sticky situations.

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro costs on an average of $1,500USD.

Token Ring

Ever wanted to have something like a hand print scanner in your home? Maybe even make payments without taking out your wallet? Well then the Token Ring would be the perfect products for you.

The Token Ring is the first product that Token made. Token Ring is simply put, an accessory to access items that usually require you to input a password. Let it be like an account where you can access your computer, car door, and maybe even your house door(if you have a lock made by Token).

The way Token Ring works is rather simple. It’s fingerprint sensor on the underside which will allow the owner to use it’s fingerprint to unlock the items with locks that have Near field communication(NFC). Since not all locks have NFC, Token Ring is considering adding Bluetooth to it as another way to ‘communicate’ with the lock. Taking the Token Ring off will require a swipe before activating it again. A rainbow-colored LED pulse shows it recognizes the fingerprint, but a red flash means it was rejected.

Token is already working with Microsoft to support Windows 10 and together with Visa and Mastercard to make contactless payments.

Token Ring comes with 2 prices- $249 and $299. The one that comes at $249 comes with a brushed stainless steel finish. While the one that costs $299 comes in black rhodium and 14k rose gold finishes.

I personally feel that the Token Ring would be extremely useful to people who have a lot items in their bag or pocket and those who often leave their keys at home or forget to take it after a meal. The Token Ring should be made water-resistant so that it will still work when you spill coffee over it or you forget to bring your umbrella on a rainy day.

HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, 2017)

HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, 2017)

Introduction

The HP Spectre 13 is like a smaller version of the HP Spectre x360 15 (2017) but with a 4k screen, that looks amazing, but the beautiful display comes with at a price. On the 4k display model, the screen eats battery up quicker than other, lesser screens, reducing the battery life to around 8 hours, lower than other laptop like HP Spectre x360 (2016) at 9.5 hours. There is a HD one with a battery life of 16 hours, so if you want a longer battery life, and can take a slightly worse screen, it can be arranged. The laptop is also a convertible, being able to change from laptop into a tablet.

Specs

  • Cost:                                 2,170.11 SGD
  • Display size/ resolution: 13.3-inch 3,840×2,160 touch display
  • CPU:                                  2.7GHz Intel Core i7-7500U
  • Memory:                           16GB DDR4 SDRAM 1,866MHz
  • Graphics:                          128MB dedicated Intel HD Graphics 620
  • Storage:                            512GB SSD
  • Expansion:                       2x USB 3.1 Type-C, 1 USB 3.1 Type-A
  • Network:                          802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 4.2
  • Operating system:           Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-bit)

Cost

The cost is a big factor in the laptop, charging an extra 339.12 SGD for the 4k display and 474.61 SGD for the 1 terra byte option (generally).

Advantages

The keyboard, is really good compared to the Yoga 910, a close competitor of the HP Spectre 13, with much better right shift key. The size of the laptop is also a much more comfortable size than the bigger models, allowing for a much better tablet experience.

Disadvantages

The main draw back is the cost, that is rather pricey. Also the battery life, again, is affected by the power hungry 4k screen, making the laptop’s battery worse than normal.

Overall

The laptop, despite being a little pricey, is still a great high performance laptop that converts into a good tablet as well.

Acer Predator XB272

The Acer Predator XB272 sends a fast 240Hz reload rate and offers a great selection of hardware controls. The 27 inch monitor has quite low resolution and the input connectors are not up to date. This is a great choice of a high-rate frame game. However it is not very ideal for the money spent on this typical kind of monitor.

Acer being competitive, increased the length of the monitor from 25 inch to 27 inch. At $680, it is not the cheapest monitor around, but it is one of the monitors that can refresh very fast. The thing that attracts buyers is of its resolution as if you can put a lorry in the pixels. But other than playing games, its resolution is not very high. You can set the resolution higher when playing games.

Specs:

Turns vertically

Depth of bit: 8

Normal Brightness:400

Pixel Pitch: 0.31mm

Gray Response time: 1 milisec

Black/white respond time: nil

Date of release: April 2017

The display of the monitor is normal, with the controls . The buttons are flat and hard to feel, but it has a joystick that makes it more easy to control the monitor. It serves as up and down keys. It has various options such as options that sets the brightness, reload rate.

Plus the 240Hz reload rate is way better than normal monitors that has reload rate of 144Hz and lousy monitors that has reload rate of 30 Hz.

There are 4 USB ports and 2 installed speakers. But there is only 1 HDMI . So, if you are spending too much money on this , you might consider using this monitor for several years.

There is 1 display port and a Headphone Jack.

So I personally think that the Predator XB272 has a great 240Hz reload rate if you are a gamer and love gaming. Plus you can set the resolution of the computer to make up for the monitor having only 1 HDMI , and of the input connectors.

Asus ZenFone AR

Asus ZenFone AR looks Daydreamy

Lets talk about the Asus ZenFone AR, a phone that amazes many. The first ever first phone that lets you use Google Tango AR and Google Daydream VR. Tango lets you see more of your world. Just hold up your phone and watch as virtual objects and information appear on top of your surroundings and also allow us to measure the distance between the chair and the coffee table by overlaying line segments in real time on the phone’s display. While the Google Daydream takes you on incredible adventures in virtual reality.

Daydream View

The phone also has a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and 6 or 8GB of RAM and this allows more apps to be kept running at the same time. Faster speed to run games, allowing smooth gameplay and able to enjoy your time. Its screen is a 5.7-inch screen that’s just a bit taller than the iPhone 7 Plus and also with a “Tri-Cam” systems that combines motion, able to sense depth and a 23-megapixel camera. The camera can take 23-megapixel photos and 4K videos which is pretty impressive.

Now lets talk about its appearance and materials. With a glass front and a soft leather back with a ugly-like rear camera which made the phone looks like something out of a mad scientist’s laboratory.

With a affordable price of  $599 seems worthy and a much better offer than a Apple phone in my opinion. With a raised home button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor makes it look like a more modern, advance  andriod phone.

In my opinion, purchasing the Asus ZenFone AR is a good choice out of all phones. Although the Asus ZenFone AR  is lightly skinned with the version of Android Nougat 7.0, setting up Tango and Daydream will be easy and straightforward taking only a few minutes.

Google Glass

Google Glass photo.JPG

Introduction

Google glass is a piece of futuristic tech worn similar to glasses, developed by X, previously Google X. The glasses work like a mini, wearable computer, with a display similar to a smart phone and hands off a experience.

Features

Google Glass, being a device on its own, has runs own apps, made by third party and also a few already existing google apps such as Gmail, Google+ and Google maps. Some of the third party apps include news apps, social media, photo manipulation, face recognition, exercise and many more. The Google Glass also has a companion app for Android and IOS called my Glass, allowing you to configure the Google Glass using your phone.

Uses

The Google Glass, being a hands-off piece of technology, has many uses. One such use would for Journalism, allowing you to see the story from the journalist point of view. Another would be for healthcare. The glass can store medical information, inform you when you next appointment and can even live steam appointments to patients. Even military uses have been explored, tracking animals and bird in the jungle.

Problems

Such different and unique technology does not come with its downside. You are not allowed to where it into places such as cinemas and casinos as it has the ability to film and record. Some places have even banned Google Glass. The Glass does pose an issue to privacy, being able to use facial recognition on every stranger you meet on the street sounds scary and is something the Glass can do. The Glass can also film events and conversations, which raises more privacy concerns.

               Overall

Due to all the controversy surrounding the initial release, the Google Glass prototype has been discontinued on 15 January 2015, but a new Google Glass, the Google Glass Enterprise Edition may be released soon, but it has not been confirmed.

Critical Ops (FPS game)

I will be talking about Critical Ops, a first person shooter. A game with good graphics and nice gun/skins. Critical Ops is a fast-paced FPS that will test your reflexes and tactical skill. There are 18 weapons excluding the knife.

There are 2 game mode, Defuse and Death match. Defuse is a game mode where there are 2 different team, counter terrorist and terrorist, 2 different bomb sites A and B. A game mode where terrorist will have a bomb to plant while the counter terrorist needs to defend bomb sites and kill each other.$800 will be given to each player at first and the money will increase on whether you win or lose, you will need to use the money to purchase guns.

There is a timer of 1 minute 40 seconds, if time runs out without terrorist planting the bomb, counter terrorist wins. If terrorist plants bomb at a site and after 35-40 seconds counter terrorist does not defuse it, bomb will explode and terrorist will win. If you are near the bomb, you will take a lot of damage and might die. if teams kill each other and if all of the teammates dies, the team who survives win.

Death match is a game mode where you get any game you want and there are still 2 teams of counter terrorist and terrorist but this time you get to go wherever and kill the opponent. You will respawn every time you die. There is a timer of 8 minutes, 1 kill 1 point added to the scoreboard.

The graphics are stunning with a maximum of 60 fps(frames per second) here are some pictures of the maps in-game. Requires Android 4.1, iOS 8.4 or later. Works best with a IPhone 6 or Samsung S6 or up

There is a control setting containing shooting/crouching/jumping/scoping layout settings like changing the x and y sensitivity and where the shoot button will be. There is also missions, complete missions and get around 20-30 credits. You will need 200 credits to buy a case. You can get skins for cases, skins are ranked from tier 1-7 . Tier 1 are commons while tier 5 are the maximum/legendary tier for normal guns, tier 6 are different type of knives without skin while 7 are knives with skins. In-app purchase are:

-240 credits for $2.98

-400 credits for $4.48

-1400 credits for $14.98

-3000 credits for $28.98

-10000 credits for $68.98

Overall i think that Critical Ops is a really good game to try out, it is not pay to win and can relax minds. Killing opponents allows you to relieve stress and have fun. Critical Ops a no-nonsense, action packed first person shooter, playing it can allow you to be amazed.

League of Legends

I will be talking about this game called. League Of Legends. It is a popular computer game which has nearly 100 million players online monthly. Clocking over an amazing billion hours of playtime in total by the players. It is a 5v5 MOBA game consisting more than 130 champions to play and experience.

League Of Legends was a game favoured by everyone from the age of 12-30. The game only took a couple of months, at most a year to get noticed by people from all around the world.

This game came out in the late 2009s and it is available on Microsoft Windows and macOS. When it first came out, there were only 17 champions but now there is a whooping amount of 137 champions in the game. The game is constantly thinking of new ways to improve and find ways to make this game better.

League Of Legends is a free to play Multiplayer Online Battle Arena Game where the teams battle each other in 2 teams of 5 in an arena called, the Summoner’s Rift. They get to pick the hero that they wish to play and fighting against their enemies, leveling during the match and gaining gold to buy different items to make their hero stronger to be able to take down the turrets guarding the enemy’s Nexus and secure a win.

One thing that I love about this game is that is entirely skill-based and not a Pay To Win game.  Means that you do not have to spend any money on the game in order to win at all. What makes it more exciting is that there is a free hero rotation every week, consisting of 6 free champions. There are also skins to the champions that you have to use money to buy which allows you make your champions look cooler compared to the original skin.

Players can choose weather to face off alone or together with friends facing off enemies. You also get to pick the hero you wish to play, each with their own special abilities, weaknesses and strengths. When the game starts, they will give you 500 gold to start of and buy your starting items. They are roles to the game for example: Junglers an Mid-laners. League Of Legends consists of 3 lanes. Players would have to kill the minions which spawn automatically on the map to earn gold in order to purchase the items needed. The main aim of victory is to destroy the enemies’ nexus while protecting yours.

Do I recommend online gamers to play this game?

Yes, definitely, even to people who do not enjoy playing online games frequently, I am sure that once you have laid your hands on this game, I guarantee you that you will spend many hours playing this game.  There are also guilds that you create to invite your friends into playing the game. There also other game modes like Ranked and custom. Ranked are for players who have reached Level 30 on their account while custom matches can let players do 1 v 1 with each other.  To be honest, I also play the game a lot but I do not have a computer which can handle the game’s FPS so I had to stop. But when I was playing, I was engrossed into playing the game that I couldn’t stop for 2-3 hours straight. I think that League of Legends is a ‘must try’ game and it’s free, so why not give it a shot ? Who knows, this might be your next favourite game.
